Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 October 2026
These terms apply when you use the Wayfarer app ("the App"). By using the App, you agree to them. We've kept them short and plain.
Wayfarer is free. Collect places by really visiting them. What you write and photograph stays yours. Look after yourself on your days out, and check a place is open before you go.
1. Who we are
The App is provided by Appified Ltd (Company No. 09405749, registered in England & Wales), 3 Bushey Way, Beckenham, BR3 6TA ("we", "us").
Wayfarer is an independent app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Trust. You'll still need membership or a ticket to visit places as usual.
2. Using the App
The App is free, for your own personal, non-commercial use. You can use it as a guest or create an account with your email address. Children under 13 should use it with a parent or guardian.
Please don't:
- fake your location, or otherwise check in somewhere you haven't been;
- try to break, overload, copy or reverse-engineer the App or our servers, or get at other people's data;
- use the App to break the law or harm anyone.
If you do, we may remove check-ins or badges, or suspend or close your account.
3. Your account
Keep access to your email account safe, as that's how you sign in. You can delete your account at any time in the App: open the Me tab and tap Delete account. Our privacy policy explains what that deletes and how we handle your information.
4. Your notes and photos
The notes and photos you add to your journal belong to you. You give us permission to store them and show them back to you in the App, and nothing more. Only add photos you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful or offensive.
5. Out and about
- Stay safe. Watch where you're going, don't use the App while driving, and keep to paths and public areas.
- Opening times, prices and access change. Check the National Trust website before you set off.
- Place details come from the National Trust's open data and our own work. We try to keep them right, but they may sometimes be out of date or a pin may be in the wrong spot. Please let us know.
6. The App itself
The App, its design, artwork and badges belong to us. Place data is © National Trust, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Maps on iPhone are provided by Apple.
We're always working on the App, so features may change, and we may need to pause it for maintenance. As it's free, we can't promise it will always be available or free of bugs, and we may stop offering it. If we close Wayfarer, we'll give you notice in the App first where we can.
7. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit, and your legal rights as a consumer are not affected. Otherwise, as the App is free, we aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for any business losses.
8. App stores
If you downloaded the App from the App Store, Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies. Apple isn't responsible for the App or for supporting it; we are.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and we'll let you know in the App about any significant changes.
10. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
